
Senior Scientist
at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution
Christopher Reddy is a senior scientist at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) and studies marine pollution, chemical ecology and the development of more environmentally friendly industrial chemicals. His overarching interest is learning how the ocean responds to human activities, increasing scientific knowledge and answering questions of societal importance. Chris has published over 230 peer-reviewed manuscripts and holds 12 U.S. patents. He has testified before Congress five times, written >30 opinion pieces, and given hundreds of print, radio, and television interviews. He received the Clair Patterson Award (2014), AGU Ambassador Award (2018), and ACS Grady-Stack Award (2024). Chris is the author of “Science Communication in a Crisis: An Insider’s Guide” and “A Kids Book About Being a Scientist”. Chris has a BS in Chemistry from Rhode Island College and a PhD in chemical oceanography from the Graduate School of Oceanography, University of Rhode Island. He resides in Woods Hole, MA with his wife and three children.
