Dr. Nicholas Jacobson is an associate professor of biomedical data science, psychiatry and computer science at Dartmouth, where he directs the AI and Mental Health: Innovation in Technology Guided Healthcare (AIM HIGH) Lab in Dartmouth’s Center for Technology and Behavioral Health. His research leverages technology – particularly AI and data from smartphones and wearable devices – to enhance the assessment and scalable treatment of anxiety, depression and related conditions. During his research career, Dr. Jacobson has published over 120 peer-reviewed articles and his smartphone applications for assessing and treating anxiety and depression have been downloaded by more than 50,000 people in over 100 countries. Drawing upon his training as a clinical psychologist, Jacobson is driven by the potential for technology to enhance the accessibility and effectiveness of mental health assessment and treatment. Jacobson is the principal investigator of an R01 Award from the National Institute of Mental Health studying the use of personalized deep learning models to predict rapid changes in major depressive disorder symptoms using passive sensor data from smartphones and wearable devices.
