Sebastian Kobold, MD, PhD profile page

Sebastian Kobold studied medicine in Bordeaux, Homburg and Zurich and graduated from Saarland University in 2007. He performed his medical dissertation with Christoph Renner in Zurich, which he defended in 2010. Sebastian trained in internal medicine, hematology, oncology, clinical pharmacology and immunology in Hamburg, Munich and Boston. In 2014, he was board-certified as a clinical pharmacologist and immunologist by the Bavarian Chamber of Physicians and the German Society for Immunology. This clinical training was complemented by a board certification in medical immunology in 2024. In 2014, he completed his habilitation in experimental internal medicine. Since 2016, Sebastian has been an attending physician in the Division of Clinical Pharmacology at LMU Klinikum. In 2019, he was appointed as Professor of Medicine and Experimental Immunooncology at LMU and Deputy Director of the Division of Clinical Pharmacology. He has full and certified training capacities for clinical pharmacology and immunology. His research interests and those of his laboratory are focused on tumor immunology and immunotherapies. The lab has a keen interest in developing and testing novel immunotherapeutics, with a focus on cell-based approaches. His research has been widely recognized with the Career Advancement Award of the Jung Foundation in 2016, the Academy Award for Cancer Research of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences in 2022, the Georges Köhler Award of the German Society of Immunology in 2023 and the Wilhelm Vaillant Award for Medical Research in 2024. Sebastian is a triple ERC grant recipient. He is a section editor at the Journal for the Immunotherapy of Cancer and the European Journal of Cancer. He serves as regular reviewer for the Nature and Science publishing groups.
